Toronto Sun vs. Toronto Star headlines

IMG00017

After a brief hiatus (and a great weekend up North) I’m returning to my daily mockery of the Toronto Sun headlines. Today’s headline features the ousting of eHealth CEO Sarah Kramer for allegedly awarding $2 million in untendered contracts to associates of her and eHealth chair Dr. Alan Hudson. Kramer is also allegedly being paid a cool $317,000 for her departure.

It’s sometimes interesting to compare Toronto Sun headlines with Toronto Star headlines. The Sun headline reads “DUMPED!”, while the Star’s reads “eHealth executive ejected”. It sort of feels like you’re reading a postcard and then reading a Shakespeare novel.

I also found today’s cover interesting because the Toronto Sun boastfully credits itself for Kramer’s removal in its sub-heading: “Two weeks after Sun reveals eHealth Ontario’s wasteful spending, CEO ousted”.

And last but not least, we have a brilliant cover photo featuring two dogs getting married. Seriously people? Seriously?

Cover Rating: NEUTRAL NEWS

  7. Toronto Star is a better paper. But is just as bad of a company. Right now they are up to their yearly university student scam. This where university students go door to do and start with the precious lie "we are no hear to sell anything. The Toronto Star is going to give me $1000 for school if I can get enough people to take a free 3 month subscription". But the end of this very trained sales pitch it turns out you have to pay for the subscription. It is all a big lie and they get thousands of people in espeically elderly that don't want to unset the kids when they get to the end. I have watched the mock done a couple times now. It is really terrible that the Star trains kids into how to cheat your way into sales. I am sure if this was done by anyother industry than News Papers this would be covered in the News. I am sure the Sun has just as bad of a scam going on. It is amazing that besides Charities News papers are the only other people that can call you and soliticate you even if your on the do not call list. Wonder if some politicians were a little scared of the papers when they put that clause in.

  8. Your site is a joke. Headlines are just that. The stroy behind it is what counts. And the Toronto Star is as one commentor prior to me pointed out, a scialist rag. It is a newspaper for the unions, and for those that think the taxpayer should provide them with a livelyhood.

  11. The Toronto Sun is nothing but a tabloid. Therefore, all it's readers are fans of People Magazine, and the National Enquirer. The Toronto Sun KNOWS its readers are easily duped into reading it, by flashing crazy photos, and coming up with insane statements designed to grab attention. As for news writing quality, they don't care, it isn't about news but rather how "catchy" their phrases are. They write for those who can't think and who MUST be told what to think. They own their "fans", and play them like puppets. These readers are those in society, who would easily follow a cult, or the pied piper. The Toronto Sun says, "Jump" and it's readers ask, "HOW high?"
